Mário Laginha nasceu em Lisboa, em 1960. Pianista, compositor, curioso praticante de vários ambientes musicais onde o jazz ocupa um lugar de destaque mas onde cabe também a música clássica, o cinema e o teatro, recebeu um piano de presente quando tinha apenas 5 anos, mas foi mais tarde, por volta dos 18 anos, que decidiu dedicar-se a sério ao estudo do instrumento. Aconteceu-lhe uma espécie de epifania quando viu, numa televisão ainda a preto e branco, um concerto a solo de Keith Jarrett. Disse numa entrevista a propósito desse encontro que nunca tinha ouvido tocar piano assim, não sabia que música era aquela, que tinha ficado absolutamente fascinado. No dia a seguir, começou a estudar piano a sério, 8 ou 9 horas por dia. Interrompia o estudo apenas para almoçar e jantar, e era o pai que tinha de lhe dizer para parar de estudar quando, às 10 da noite, batia 3 vezes na parede do quarto ao lado como quem diz “já chega, são horas de dormir”. Da sua longa carreira destacam-se as prolíficas colaborações com Maria João, Bernardo Sassetti e Pedro Burmester, mas também o Trio Mário Laginha, com o contrabaixista Bernardo Moreira e o baterista Alexandre Frazão, ou o Novo Trio, com Bernardo Moreira e a guitarra portuguesa de Miguel Amaral, além do Quinteto de Jazz de Lisboa, o Sexteto de Jazz de Lisboa, e até um Decateto na Gulbenkian…entre muitos outros projectos com músicos nacionais e estrangeiros. Adepto da diversidade, experimentou por várias vezes musicar poesia, e tem explorado noutras ocasiões a relação entre a literatura e a música. Um dos exemplos é o álbum "Jangada", inspirado no livro “Jangada de Pedra” de José Saramago, onde consta o tema Desquiet inspirado no Livro do Desassossego.
