Martyn Reed

from Storhaug Productions Hosted by Storhaug Productions

"I was politicised at an early age, arrested for writing my name on a wall at age 13, and was thus always interested in creative activism" Martyn Reed is the creator behind Numusic and Nuart's festivals and the NuArt Gallery as well as several club concepts. He has been contributing to the local arts and culture life for the past 20 years, and in 2016 he was awarded the Stavanger Municipal Cultural Prize. Stavanger mayor Christine Sagen Helgø described Reed with these words - Martyn Reed has put Stavanger on the map in a very positive way. Nuart is considered world-leading within its genre, and Reed is a valuable resource in the art and culture community in Stavanger. Not everybody is as enthusiastic about the local street art scene as mayor Helgø. Several local artists and art critics have raised a debate about street art and its lack of quality. The Norwegian Art Council has cut the financial support for Nuart, Nuart are now preparing for another type of funding model. Reed, who himself has an art education, is very critical and in opposission to the arrogance of the local cultural elite as he describes as the art hierarchy.
