May I… Getting Out There Presented by the Sunday Edition Family of Podcasts in partnership with Bold Blind Beauty In conversation three of our four part May I series, we explore what it means to reconnect with the world around us while navigating disability, advocacy, emotional wellness, and the realities of accessibility. Together we discuss the pause before opening the door, the emotional preparation behind everyday outings, and the balance between self care and isolation. We examine internal barriers such as anxiety, burnout, fear of embarrassment, trauma, and the exhaustion that can come from constantly advocating for ourselves. We also tackle external barriers including inaccessible businesses and websites, transportation struggles, public assumptions, poor accommodation practices, and the difference between performative accessibility and true inclusion. Most importantly, this conversation focuses on reclaiming joy. Recreation, friendship, movement, laughter, travel, hobbies, community spaces, and the simple act of participating in the world matter. Joy is not frivolous. Joy is part of survival. This week we continue the conversation with our final installment, focusing on joy and the practical application of everything we have explored together so far. We will discuss how to remain open to the world while still protecting our mental health, emotional well being, boundaries, and sense of self as advocates and human beings.
