Mayor signs declaration clearing the way for demolition and redevelopment of Bartram Village site
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Several dozen vacant apartment buildings will come crashing down in Southwest Philadelphia, and hundreds of new homes will go up in their place. That’s the plan after Mayor Cherelle Parker signed a public safety emergency for the former Bartram Village site. That allows the Philadelphia Housing Authority to redevelop the 22-acre property, with the help of a $50 million grant from the feds. The city said people who lived in the public housing units along 5400 and 5600 Lindbergh Boulevard have been relocated and will get the chance to return once the construction is complete.
