Numerous emails and in-person visits from potential players highlighted the need for a women’s hockey team. Despite initial hurdles, such as high costs and the absence of a dedicated arena, the college leadership recognized the importance of launching this program. By the summer of 2022, after much planning and community interest, the college decided to kick off anexhibition season, allowing women and girls in the area to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.One factor that has significantly boosted interest in women's hockey at MHC is the establishment of professional leagues. The visibility of successful female athletes provides inspiration for young girls, showing them that a career in sports is attainable. Ballard noted, "It gives young girls something to look forward to and say, wow, I could keep playing."By hosting community events and inviting young girls to practices, the college aims to cultivate a love for hockey that extends beyond the rink.
