Aristóteles, filósofo griego, afirmo en una ocasión: “La felicidad es el sentido y propósito de la vida humana”. Los científicos de nuestro tiempo también comienzan a reconocer su importancia. ¿Qué nos puede aportar la ciencia acerca de la felicidad? Hay muchas observaciones que contradicen creencias habituales en nuestra sociedad sobre la felicidad. Por ejemplo, se ha comprobado que una vez cubiertas las necesidades básicas el tener más riqueza material no implica necesariamente que el individuo vaya a ser más feliz. De hecho se ha comprobado que las personas más felices son aquellas que han tomado conciencia de sus propias cualidades, fortalezas y virtudes y las utilizan para el bienestar de los demás. Ciertos estudios en la psicología positiva demuestran una clara conexión entre realizar un buen trabajo y acciones desinteresadas que aporten beneficio a otras personas con el bienestar psicológico y emocional del individuo.
