April 7 marks the birthday of Astro Boy, one of Japan’s most iconic anime characters. While the manga first debuted in 1952, the story famously sets his creation on April 7, 2003, by Dr. Tenma. To mark the occasion, we revisit our interview with legendary voice actress Mari Shimizu, who brought Astro Boy to life for nearly four decades, beginning with the TV anime in 1963.
