With a generation that is deprived of good sleep, melatonin supplements have become more and more mainstream and readily available. Melatonin is the naturally occurring hormone in the body that regulates one's sleep cycle. Join me in this episode as I discuss everything you need to know about melatonin and whether you need it as a supplement or not.

Key points:

- How is melatonin produced, and what does it do to the body?

- What are the factors that affect the body's production of melatonin

- What are the types of melatonin supplements?

- What are the side effects of melatonin supplements?

- What are things to consider before taking melatonin supplements?

- What are the alternatives for melatonin supplements?

As with other supplements, it is important that we focus on the body's natural ability to produce melatonin first rather than ingesting to supplement even from natural sources. There are ways to boost this ability and good sleep hygiene is the key. If you're considering adding melatonin supplements to your diet, talk to you doctor.
