The conversation about good mental health should be with the middle classes as this will be the group that will be most responsive and can bring a change in direction. If more people took ownership of their mental health then this would lower stigma. Educating children is key as they will then develop a healthy approach to their own mental health. There is positivity around mental health and its increasingly viewed with importance in Malawi. Moving forward the discussions need to become actions that will bring change. When you are aware of mental health you become more attuned to your own mental well-being and that of those around you. The way you think about things influences what happens in your brain. Mental illness is real and whatever our environment support from our families is vital to help us cope with the situations we meet in life. Having hope and playing a part create the ripples that will make a difference. Everything has to start somewhere.
