O plenário da Casa rejeitou o nome do ministro-chefe da Advocacia-Geral da União, Jorge Messias, nesta quarta-feira, 29, para vaga no STF. O indicado do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) teve apenas 34 votos a favor e 42 votos contrários. A rejeição ao nome de Messias foi interpretada de duas formas por integrantes do STF. A primeira é a desmoralização do atual governo perante o Congresso Nacional, Lula é o primeiro presidente a ter uma indicação ao STF rejeitada desde Floriano Peixoto, no final do século 19. De lá para cá, todos haviam sido aprovados pelo Senado. A segunda é que o Senado enviou à Corte um recado: se hoje a Casa tem maioria para descartar um candidato a ministro, amanhã terá poder suficiente para afastar quem já compõe o tribunal.
