from Michigan Business Network · host Michigan Business Network

Originally uploaded July 21st, reloaded July 31st. Chris Holman welcomes back Julie Pingston, President and CEO, Choose Lansing, Lansing, MI. Here's what they cover in this conversation: Choose Lansing is currently representing a ballot proposal in the upcoming August 4 election. What's it about? Who will be impacted by the tax? How much will the tax raise the price per night at local hotels and motels? What will the additional tax revenue go towards? Why is this important for the Lansing region? When will the proposal be on the ballot, and who can vote on it? Here's how that appears on the ballot: INGHAM COUNTY TOURISM, ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES, AND ARTS PROPOSAL To improve convention facilities, modernize the County Fairgrounds, promote the arts, attract tourists and capital investments to the County, and other activities specified by Public Act 263 of 1974, as amended, shall the County be permitted to increase the tax collected from visitors who stay less than 30 days at hotels and similar accommodations, from the present level of 5%, to 8%, for such purposes?
