Michigan Business Beat | Mackinac Policy Conference 2026 - Mark Hackel, Macomb County Exec. - #MPC26
from Michigan Business Network · host Michigan Business Network
Chris Holman speaks with Mark Hackel, from Media Row, at the Grand Hotel, while at the 2026 Mackinac Policy Conference. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel joined host Chris Holman at the Mackinac Policy Conference to highlight the county's strong fiscal position and major recent developments. He noted that Moody's recently upgraded Macomb County to a AAA bond rating — shared with neighboring Oakland County and held by less than 1% of municipalities — and pointed to a fully funded retiree healthcare system, an over-funded pension system, and roughly $140 million in fund balance, including a $250 million jail and mental health facility being built without bonding. The biggest announcement, signed at Mackinac Island during the conference, was a $152 million state commitment to extend the runway at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which clears the way for an estimated $3.5 billion in new fighter aircraft and an additional $1 billion in base upgrades, securing the base's future for decades. Hackel also revealed that Macomb County and its regional partners are in early conversations with Boeing about the possibility of locating a new F-15 manufacturing facility in Southeast Michigan, given Boeing's current production capacity constraints and strong global demand for the aircraft. » Visit MBN website: http://www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/ » Watch MBN’s YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/@MichiganbusinessnetworkMBN » Like MBN: http://www.facebook.com/mibiznetwork » Follow MBN: http://twitter.com/MIBizNetwork/ » MBN Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/mibiznetwork/
