Michigan Business Beat | Mackinac Policy Conference 2026 - Phil Roos, EGLE - #MPC26
from Michigan Business Network · host Michigan Business Network
Chris Holman speaks with Phil Roos, from Media Row, at the Grand Hotel, while at the 2026 Mackinac Policy Conference. Phil Roos, director of Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), joined host Chris Holman at the Mackinac Policy Conference to discuss the agency's work and priorities. He highlighted several major accomplishments under his leadership, including more than $6 billion invested in water infrastructure supporting roughly 100,000 jobs, a doubling of contaminated site cleanups, a brownfield redevelopment program generating over $40 in private investment for every public dollar spent, a record-high recycling rate of 26%, and continued year-over-year improvement in air quality and lead service line replacement. Roos noted that EGLE is currently navigating a divided government environment and is focused on bipartisan legislation around brownfield and dam safety reform, while also working to protect its budget, which funds staffing and permitting improvements across the agency's 1,600 employees and nine district offices statewide. With the current administration winding down, he said the agency's priority is to accelerate and lock in recent gains before a new governor takes office. » Visit MBN website: http://www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/ » Watch MBN’s YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/@MichiganbusinessnetworkMBN » Like MBN: http://www.facebook.com/mibiznetwork » Follow MBN: http://twitter.com/MIBizNetwork/ » MBN Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/mibiznetwork/
