Trauma can change brain chemistry either temporarily or permanently. It’s important to achieve a balance, a new norm for the person. There needs to be support in place for any changes to be sustained. You can begin with a mental illness and this can result in physical illness. If you have mental health challenges taking control of the narrative is vital if you want to live the best life you can. Living with mental health conditions has its good days and its bad days but you can live your best life. Before puberty, boys are able to express their emotions but after puberty, there is an intensification of emotion but less opportunity for expression. Mental health in minority groups is treated very differently from that of their white counterparts. Most parents don’t seek help if they have a mental health problem because they are worried their child would be taken away. There are now dedicated units where mothers and babies/children can stay together while being treated.
