मकरतोरणम्

देवालयेषु द्वारतोरणस्य मध्यभागे (देवविग्रहं परितः) मकरतोरणं भवति । तन्मध्ये राक्षसमुखं किञ्चन दृश्यते । तस्य राक्षसस्य नाम किम्? तत् मुखं किमर्थं स्थाप्यते तत्र इति विषयम् अधिकृत्य स्कन्दमहापुराणे या कथा तां कथाम् इदानीं शृण्वन्तु ।(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)In temples, at the center of the gateway arch (around the deity’s image), there is a Makara Torana.
