Monkey Shines (1988) Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 656

Spencer and Dave are traveling back to cinema 1988 and reviewing up the cult classic film, Monkey Shines by George A. Romero. A film that really looks like something completely different than what the movie poster shows. The story is all about a running athlete who gets hit by a truck and becomes a quadriplegic from the accident. Now he is down in the dumps mentally and seems like everything is coming to an end until his science lab buddy brings over an experimental helper monkey to aid him.From the film's poster you would think this was going into a slasher movie realm with an evil possessed monkey, but it really is more of a hard drama that happens to turn slightly into psychological horror as the movie unfolds. As the man has a mental connection to the primate in the form of the shinning. A movie where you really feel for a lot of the characters and actors too with some of these stunts. It's a great, somewhat forgotten film that definitely tries something very unique and of course Romero pulls it off excellently. A movie well worth the watch.
