Monospațiat w/ LDC, Julia Kahl, Akos Polgardi, Jean-Michel Geridan (08.09.2026)
from Black Rhino Radio · host Black Rhino Radio
For the second edition of Local Design Awards, Monospațiat brings together the three members of the LDA 2026 international jury — Julia Kahl, Ákos Polgárdi, and Jean-Michel Géridan — in a conversation hosted by Andrei Grosu. The discussion explores what it means to evaluate graphic design work as part of an international jury — how competitions are structured, what criteria guide selection, and what a juror brings to the process when they are both an active practitioner and a curator. The conversation covers the role of national competitions within the broader European design landscape, the relationship between recognition and professional culture, and what makes a competition meaningful for the designers who participate in it. Julia Kahl is a communication designer, publisher, and editor, co-founder and CEO of Slanted Publishers, and Visiting Professor for Typography and Corporate Design at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Ákos Polgárdi is a graphic designer and typographer, founder of SUBMACHINE and of the Hungarian Book Design Award, Hungary. Jean-Michel Géridan is an art critic and designer, CEO of Le Signe / Centre national du graphisme, and Artistic Director of the International Biennale of Graphic Design in Chaumont, France. Local Design Awards is a national graphic design competition organized by Local Design Circle, recognizing outstanding work in Poster, Editorial, and Printed Matter. The LDA 2026 gala, exhibition, and conference take place on 18 September at Fabrik, Bucharest. 💥 Live on Black Rhino Radio every fourth Tuesday, from 13:00 EEST 🎧 Listen to all shows & check the tracklists at bit.ly/3o0hdMz
