MORE THAN THE MASK; Belfast rapper DurtBird talk about why he wears the mask, his love for Belfast & dealing with online haters

from Whiskey & White

This week, we are joined by upcoming Belfast rapper Durt Burd. He tells us how he got his name, why he wears a mask, and what inspired him to get into the rap game. He talks about how he found Jun Tzu’s business card and called the number and rang down the phone for him. He is also an Irish speaker and incorporates the Irish language in his raps. This naturally draws comparisons to Kneecap, but it frustrates him as he tries to forge his own identity. His love for Belfast comes through in his songs as he talks about the city in the post-troubles era. He addresses the infamous Vice documentary and how the Belfast rap scene was poorly portrayed. His struggles with mental health almost made him quit rapping, but now he’s overcome those battles and is booked to perform this year at some Irish festivals. This is an intriguing listen about a young Belfast MC trying to make it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
