And (bonus!) you don’t have to be a mother to experience mother shame. Society views womanhood and motherhood as inextricably bound; therefore our value as women is often determined by where we are in relation to our roles as mothers or potential mothers. Women are constantly asked why they haven’t married or, if they’re married, why they haven’t had children. Even women who are married and have one child are often asked why they haven’t had a second child.” - Brené Brown, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead “Every Child a Woman Has Cuts Her Salary by 4%. But Father’s Get a 6% Increase: The subtle (and often not-so-subtle) ways American companies discriminate against expecting employees” by Betsy Mikel, Inc. “Stay at Home Mom” should be renamed “Unpaid Working Mothers” according to Tiffany Dufu in Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less. “What It Will Take to Make U.S. Child Care More Affordable” by Maya Uppaluru, Harvard Business Review --- We want to hear from you!
