Moto Conversations with Jay Taruc

from Moto Conversations Podcast · host Husqvarna Motorcycles Philippines

Show Summary: “Ride at your own pace and skill level.” Seasoned rider and broadcaster Jay Taruc joins Sam YG for today’s episode of Moto Conversations. Being accustomed to bicycles, scooters, and old motorcycles growing up with his rider father and veteran broadcaster Joe Taruc, Jay is no stranger to bikes. His first bike, a scooter, was his learning bike when he started riding at age 14.  From his 150cc scooter, he made the jump to a 650cc cruiser motorcycle. More than riding for speed, Jay craved for farther and longer travels on his bike. And it was during the early 2000s that he got exposed to different genres of motorcycles through fellow rider friends he met along the way.  Fast forward to 2021, and Jay is a proud owner of eight bikes: three scooters and five motorcycles. His main bike is his Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. He calls it his “go-to” bike for doing shoots for his TV show, Ride PH. The Svartpilen is also his default bike for days when he doesn’t want to think anymore about which bike to use. It’s a glorified dirt bike yet light enough for smooth urban riding.  Tune in to the whole episode as Jay shares his riding history and adventures with host Sam YG. Don’t forget to like this episode and subscribe to the show for more Husqvarna bike talk. Exceptional Highlights: Always respect fellow riders, drivers, and pedestrians when hitting the streets. Everyone has a right to use the road. Training is important. Learn as much as you can about riding and operating a motorcycle.  Equip yourself with proper riding gear. Make sure your helmet has the ICC sticker to certify that it passed national safety standards. Show Highlights: With three scooters and five motorcycles, how do you manage them all? Do you schedule regular rotation when using them? 12:53 Jay I rotate them daily to make sure I use all of them regularly. By the weekend, I will use the bike that I have not used for the longest time for longer trips.  To maintain the bikes, I have different mechanics for the different kinds of bikes that I own. For my Husqvarna motorcycles, I go to the authorized service centers for regular check-ups. I treat my bikes like they’re my children. No exaggeration. Owning bikes requires you to take care of them. How much is riding a part of your life? 21:36 Jay Professionally, I’m tied to motorcycles and riding because of the television shows that I’m doing now. Personally, I can’t imagine not riding. It’s become my way of life. I’m okay to lose my cars, but not my motorcycles. Like my fellow regular riders, we’ve already adapted to various riding and weather conditions that no matter the scenario, we would still choose our bikes as the top choice for transportation. Motorcycles are very practical in many ways. What are your pet peeves when it comes to other riders? 24:27 Jay My pet peeves include riders who do not abide by traffic rules and have no courtesy for other motorists. Owning a motorcycle does not give you the license to be rude and disrespectful to other people using the road, whether fellow motorcyclists, drivers, or even pedestrians.
