عاش الأمير الشاعر في النصف الأخير من القرن الثاني عشر، وقد كان أميراً للحريق جنوبي نجد، قريباً من حوطة بني تميم. قال عنه محمد سعيد كمال:"كان شاعراً كبيراً لم يطرق فيه فنّاً إلا ولجه، لكنه برع في الغزل أكثر، وكان من الكرماء الأجواد، ومن نوابغ نجد الأفذاذ."
