MtF Transition, Euphoria, Despair, and Hope | Walt Heyer's Transgender Story

Walt Heyer had it all: married to a beautiful woman, father of two wonderful children, he got to work on the Apollo space mission, and was even a high ranking employee at a big tech firm. But he had a deep, dark secret, that he had kept from everyone as long as he could remember. He was a secret cross dresser. From the time he was 13 he had an alternate persona: Crystal West. He would act out as a transvestite at home secretly and continued his confused gender role-play as a married man.  In the 1980's, he sought help from the best gender gender specialists and was proscribed the nascent WPATH protocol. He was given hormones, and MtF surgeries, and had his legal documentation changed to represent his new name: Laura Jensen. It brought him euphoria and relief - for eight years. Then it all came crashing down.
