MW99 - MARK SUTTON-SMITH

from MusicalWorld Podcast · host Jim Farley, David Brush, Shane Anderson

MW99 – MARK SUTTON-SMITH On March 12th, 2013, MusicalWorld, and musical theatre in general, lost one of our own. Mark Sutton-Smith passed after a long battle with cancer. All of us wish to extend to Mark’s family and friends, our deepest condolences and respect. We’re sure Mark is creating beautiful music in a beautiful place. We started doing MusicalWorld way back in February of 2006. On our third episode, we featured a musical called STAND BY THE RIVER… It’s creators are Joanne & Mark Sutton-Smith. We since have featured two other musicals that Mark composed music for for friend, Alan Gordon… THE GIRL DETECTIVE & THE USUAL. “I had the good fortune to work with him over a six year span, writing three musicals and nearly 50 songs together. He wrote half the score of “The Usual” in between bouts of chemo — and it was gorgeous. He leaves behind a wife, Joanne, and two daughters, Olivia and Maddie. His website is still up, and if I can pick one song for you to listen to, it would be “Enough,” sung by Michael Hunsaker and Kristin Maloney.” Alan Gordon music on this episode includes: (taking Alan’s cue and suggestion of listening material…) ENOUGH sung by Michael Hunsaker and Kristin Maloney THE GIRL DETECTIVE – sung by Tara Novie & cast BACK IN THE DAY – sung by Peter Samuel & Lauren Blackman THESE TWO WALK INTO A BAR -sung by Gil Brady, Jillian Louis & Tara Novie THE GEEK NEXT DOOR – sung by Gil Brady STAND BY THE RIVER – sung by Jim Gwathney & cast Mark has been featured on Musicalworld several times over the last 7 years. MW3 featured the music of STAND BY THE RIVER MW11 we discussed Ben Brantley’s NY Times article on STAND BY THE RIVER MW45 – THE GIRL DETECTIVE MW52 – 2009 END OF YEAR HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA MW83 – SUMMER CALLBACKS MW90 – THE USUAL This episode is dedicated in Mark’s memory…
