MW113 UPDATE
I just wanted to let everyone know that we have not totally disappeared. We’re still here… and we’re still interested in your new musicals… BUT… all 3 of us, Dave, Shane and I have all had a lot of changes in our lives that Is keeping us busy elsewhere and we just don’t have the time together that we once had. I’m saying all this because, over the last several months, I’ve gotten emails wondering where we went… Well, I still plan to try to release new shows and interviews as we get them, but we don’t have the time to pursue them as we once did… so… we’re going to need your help… if you, or someone you know, writes new musical theater works and wants them to be promoted on MW, we’d love to be there for you. All you need to do is contact me, Jim Farley, at [email protected] and give me your contact information and I’ll be happy to get back with you and set up a day and time when we can talk! Just go to the website at musicalworld.us and you can find the link there. I know there’s many of you out there and we want to talk with you and get your shows heard, so… give us a shout! You can always leave us a message on our facebook page, and on twitter… Also… if you’re an alumni of MusicalWorld or Encore Theater Company, we’re interested to know if anything is happening on your show… whether we did a feature on MW or if we did a reading, workshop or production at Encore, send us some updates! That’s all for now… but stay subscribed and check back for new episodes and updates!

MW106 FLASHBACK! MW4 – CONVIENIENCE – Gregg Coffin
MW106 - FLASHBACK! MW4 - CONVENIENCE - GREGG COFFIN It's been suggested by some that we re-release some of the older MW episodes that, for one reason or another, are very hard to find these days... and I thought that was a great idea... especially since our schedules aren't permitting the time to get as many new episodes recorded! So... we're going to start off the MW flashback editions with one of the first and still one of my favorite new musicals... CONVENIENCE. This episode originally "aired" on April 2nd, 2006, shortly after we broke ground on the MW tower. :-) Gregg's music & musicals remains among my favorites in the new musical theatre genre... Smart, funny and well thought through. On this episode we hear several songs from Convenience: Waking Vince/I Love How We Start Off Our Day - sung by Jim Poulos, Melissa Rain Anderson and Mary Jo McConnell Convenient - sung by Jim Poulos and Mary Jo McConnell Un - sung by Melissa Rain Anderson and Mary Jo McConnell & Jim Poulos Crawling Forward - sung by Melissa Rain Anderson Letting Go - sung by Jim Poulos and Ron DeStefano The Ogre and the Wife - sung by Mary Jo McConnell and Ron DeStefano Moving Day/Reprise: Little Spaceman - sung by Jim Poulos, Mary Jo McConnell, Melissa Rain Anderson, Ron DeStefano & Michael Dantuono We take the show out on a song by Dave Hudson and Paul Libman's musical. DUST AND DREAMS, called Band Shell. Gregg has been featured previously on MusicalWorld on episodes MW8 where we featured FIVE COURSE LOVE, MW77 when we featured RIGHT NEXT TO ME and MW81 when he was in Dayton, Ohio for a production of RIGHT NEXT TO ME with his director, Melissa Rain Anderson! I'm sure we'll be hearing from Gregg again in the future! Check out Greggs website: littlespaceman.com and if YOU have a musical that you would like to see & hear featured on MusicalWorld, contact Jim at: [email protected] with your contact information and we will be happy to get in touch and talk about your musical! If you have any comments about this episode or any past episodes, please call our MW HOTLINE at: 347-694-5469 and we’ll play your comments on an upcoming episode! And the next time you’re in Dayton, stop by GHOSTLIGHT COFFEE… Taking back the neighborhood coffee house! MusicalWorld is a proud member of the BLUBRRY network! MW 104 – DENNIS LIVINGSTON
MW104 - DENNIS LIVINGSTON - THE STORIES IN MY MINDWe're kicking off a new season of MusicalWorld with a bit of a sidestep from our usual fair... On this episode I spoke with Dennis Livingston about his newly released CD entitled "THE STORIES IN MY MIND". A CD of original songs by Boston composer-lyricist Dennis Livingston, recorded live in a revue at New York’s Metropolitan Room. The show ran for four performances in 2011 with an outstanding cast of vocalists: Julie Reyburn (4 time MAC, 2 time Bistro awards), Scott Coulter (Director) (4 time MAC, 4 time Bistro, 2 time Nightlife awards), Kenneth Gartman (Music Director), Christina Connors and Alex Goley, along with Matt Scharfglass on bass and guitar. Dennis' music lends itself, very much so, to the genre of musical theatre. One listen, and we're sure you'll agree! Dennis' father, Jerry Livingston, wrote, in addition to many pop standards, the music for Disney's Cinderella & one Broadway musical, "Molly" from 1973. Music included on this episode include: AN ORDINARY DAY - sung by Julie Reyburn, Scott Coulter (also the Director), Kenneth Gartman (also the Music Director), Christina Connors & Alex Goley IT'S TIME FOR ROSES - sung by Julie Reyburn PUTTIN' ON SOME FEATHERS - sung by Julie Reyburn, Scott Coulter , Kenneth Gartman, Christina Connors & Alex Goley THE STORIES IN MY MIND - sung by Kenneth Gartman & company THE STORIES OF MY MIND is available for purchase at CD BABY. MW99 - MARK SUTTON-SMITH
MW99 – MARK SUTTON-SMITH On March 12th, 2013, MusicalWorld, and musical theatre in general, lost one of our own. Mark Sutton-Smith passed after a long battle with cancer. All of us wish to extend to Mark’s family and friends, our deepest condolences and respect. We’re sure Mark is creating beautiful music in a beautiful place. We started doing MusicalWorld way back in February of 2006. On our third episode, we featured a musical called STAND BY THE RIVER… It’s creators are Joanne & Mark Sutton-Smith. We since have featured two other musicals that Mark composed music for for friend, Alan Gordon… THE GIRL DETECTIVE & THE USUAL. “I had the good fortune to work with him over a six year span, writing three musicals and nearly 50 songs together. He wrote half the score of “The Usual” in between bouts of chemo — and it was gorgeous. He leaves behind a wife, Joanne, and two daughters, Olivia and Maddie. His website is still up, and if I can pick one song for you to listen to, it would be “Enough,” sung by Michael Hunsaker and Kristin Maloney.” Alan Gordon music on this episode includes: (taking Alan’s cue and suggestion of listening material…) ENOUGH sung by Michael Hunsaker and Kristin Maloney THE GIRL DETECTIVE – sung by Tara Novie & cast BACK IN THE DAY – sung by Peter Samuel & Lauren Blackman THESE TWO WALK INTO A BAR -sung by Gil Brady, Jillian Louis & Tara Novie THE GEEK NEXT DOOR – sung by Gil Brady STAND BY THE RIVER – sung by Jim Gwathney & cast Mark has been featured on Musicalworld several times over the last 7 years.
