My 80 years of a good life in America

Yesterday I turned 80. Yes, I was born June 9 1944, three days after D Day.  Before I became a Christian I thought about reincarnation. Perhaps I had been reincarnated from one of the soldiers who bravely died winning freedom for the world. Of course reincarnation isn’t true, but it would be nice to have a hero’s blood in me.  I’m only thankful that I grew up in the  America that made sense. A man and a woman getting married and staying married. Having children, and the children growing up to be proper citizens.  Patriotism. Manliness. The elegance of women. In the last 80 years I’ve seen so many changes. This is patriotism. Manliness. The elegance of women. A world where kids didn’t go around staring into the devices, not knowing how much joy there can be found just by looking up at the wondrous beauty that I saw for the last eighty years.
