My America the Bountiful (poems from the book the Eighth Wonder of the World by Jerry Rhoads: a mission statement for culture change from violent, vulgar and excess to Humanism's peaceful coexistence)
from The American Enterprise Manifesto: My America's Vision of Peace and Nonviolence for Humanism · host Jerry Rhoads
We are Jerry and Shari Rhoads who just celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary (that's us in the cover photo in 2012). We live in Gilberts, Illinois a suburb of Chicago and are retired health care consultants and nursing home owners. We have written our memoir about saving marriages by staying healthy and happy and "getting what we got". Ours is a lifetime commitment to a relationship that has lasted 65 years and is ongoing due to our lifestyle and loving immediate family of 32 (4 children, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Why are we doing a GoFundMe account? It is to fund our campaign to reduce or reverse failing marriages before they end in divorce (happening at an alarming rate of 1 in 2 marriages will fail) and destroy the very fabric of "Our America". There are 823,000 divorces per year affecting over a million children who are left wondering what they did to cause the breakup. And as the song says breaking up does not break even. Our book of 12 vows and lifestyle habits can help those contemplating marriage or divorce to understand the implications of either decision. More specifically it tells our story of how to deal with the inevitable problems that will either pull you closer together or further apart. It isn't a diet or self-help book ... it is what we call self-health advice and our girl talk and guy talk conversations express our views of how we overcame human mistakes with a simple walking and talking exercise. Over the last 31 years we have walked over 20,000 miles communicating about our wants, needs and differences. This is only one of many ways we have lived and loved our way to eternal happiness forever after our marriage. We also have been in business together for 40 of those years benefiting from the opportunities that our America and successful relationships provided us. I call this "My America the Bountiful". Shari and I believe in enterprising Americans to do the right thing. With the Corona virus and George Floyd fear and confusion over America's future we propose peaceful coexistence ... a Kissinger type detente. In the poems we are putting the love and patriotism into the Humanism movement. All the other isms are inflaming our culture. Be it progressive or regressive is the problem. Nonsense has taken over common sense. We no longer have the simple values of love, family, work, good health, happiness and prosperity ... the American Dream. We now have violence, vulgarity and excess as our collective values. The American Nightmare. How did we get here? It is the leadership at every level of our democracy that is mocking our founding fathers’ values. Do we follow the constitution as amended? No. Do we elect officials that follow their hearts not their fear agendas? No. Do we truly work together to fight our own demons? NO? Then where is this leading us? It's dividing us and leaving us vulnerable to extinction like other great societies that no long exist. My America, as stated in the poem and A Better World is the solution not resolution until there is a political party that represents Humanism values. That third party founded on representing enterprising Americans who work every day to pay all the bills and fight all the wars (viruses as well as tyranny) will be the remedy to violence, vulgarity and excess with love, family, work ethic and peace towards all races, creeds, religions, sexes, be they American citizens or legal aliens. The standard we are seeking is to honor our fellow American with peaceful coexistence and clean up our inner cities, our use of weapons, our media, our entertainment, our schools, our churches, our small communities who will work towards as happiness good health and prosperity in the land of the free standing for Humanism as "Our America the Bountiful" .
