Dr. Michael Lucas is an accomplished inventor with several patents to his name, spanning agricultural products, beverage trays, software, robotics, materials handling, and oil processing. Holding a PhD in Mechatronics Engineering, with a focus on modular mobile robotics and the anthropology of designers, he also possesses an Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering specializing in product and systems design and manufacture. His academic background is complemented by diplomas in computer graphics, animation, and IT. As a Chartered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of Engineers Australia, Dr. Lucas brings a wealth of expertise to his field. Dr. Lucas has made significant contributions to various industries. Most recently, he has been instrumental in accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy at Tesla, where he played a key role in building the machines that build the machines. His earlier career highlights include contributing to Woolworths' landmark MSRDC automated grocery distribution center, leading Hydrodec’s global engineering team, and developing cutting-edge robotics, computer vision, and AI systems for CHEP/Brambles. Additionally, he has worked with manufacturing industry clients at Dematic on a variety of bespoke projects. Beyond his technical achievements, Dr. Lucas has demonstrated leadership in professional circles. He has chaired professional bodies, including one with over 27,000 members, and has been recognized for his early career contributions, including chairing the inaugural International Young Professionals Summit. His accolades include being named Australian Young Professional Engineer of the Year and three-time finalist for Young Australian of the Year.
