The track marks the band’s first release of 2026, following a run of recent live shows that has seen them continue to build momentum across Aotearoa. A cover of the classic Bobby Brown track, Black Comet’s take on ‘My Prerogative’ flips the song into their own world, adding a galactic funk twist and the unmistakable energy of a band known for pushing genre boundaries. Led by Laughton Kora, Black Comet bring together funk, rock, soul, psychedelic textures and deep rhythmic energy, reshaping the track through their own expansive lens. “‘My Prerogative’ is a tune that we’ve been jamming for a while. We just love how groovy and funky it is, so we’ve put our spin on it. When Black Comet is playing, it’s all about the groove for us, and this track really captures that feel.” - Laughton Kora
