"My radio, my world of imagination" by Steve Adams

from Tea With George · host George Caylor, Diane Gruber, Steve Putney

“My radio, my world of imagination” by Steve Adams When I grew up, we had a trip to town about once a month and one station on our black and white tv, but the radio was my true link to the outside world.  We listened to the farm reports twice day.  At night, I would fire up the AM radio and pull in far away stations like WSM from Nashville or WGN from Chicago.  That was my link to the wider world. I remember hosts like Art Linkletter or Howard Cosell and I look back and wonder how those characters may have influenced my own time in broadcasting.  I remember closing my eyes as I listened trying to imagine the story or sports scene and my excitement hinged on each word they spoke.  In a way, the experience was much like reading a book, but the radio brought life and sound to the mental images. Imagination brings creativity and that was the real lesson.  I leave you today with a found memory: Steve Adams…….
