Myth of the Pandemic Learning Gap | Episode #37 - Shannon Dube

from Mr. Clarke After Dark · host Lucas Clarke

Shannon Dube is currently the President of the ATA Local 48 and is also the Elementary Numeracy Coordinator for the Fort McMurray Public School Division. On part one of our conversation, Shannon and I discuss the weirdness of incentivizing teachers out of the classroom, how people who leave the classroom are viewed with lesser value for no longer being in it and the identity crisis that comes with it, planning professional development sessions for more than eight hundred teachers, the most common complaints from teachers about PD and how to plan around them, trying to develop the ‘teacher’ as a whole within group sessions rather than targeting their individual specialty, how teachers are no longer trusted how to do their jobs effectively, where the funding comes from for Local PD, the post-covid ‘learning loss’ or if it even exists and the bias that comes with believing it, how the government is tying funding to learning loss, the anti-intellectual society and its challenges for teachers, how school cultures develop in isolation, the influence you have teaching the same student over several years, and, much more. Thank you for tuning in and hope you enjoy the show! Send us a textThoughts shared on the podcast are purely our own and do not represent the views of the Anglophone South School District or the relevant jurisdictions associated with my guests.
