Naraya Krishnan: A Male Mother Theresa

from The Cosmic Citizen · host Paula Thompson

The first hour of this week's show is pre-recorded with a very special guest, Narayanan Krishnan, one of CNN's top 10 heroes for 2010. CNN Top Ten Heroes. Narayanan Krishnan, an award-winning chef with the Taj Hotels, was short-listed for an elite job in Switzerland but he abandoned a promising career to feed the poorest of the poor in India. While he was visiting his family, before heading to Europe, he saw a very old man, literally eating his own human excrement out of hunger. He went to a nearby hotel and asked them what food was available. They had idli, which he bought and gave to the old man. Says Narayanan, "I had never seen a person eating so fast, ever. As he ate the food and his eyes were filled with tears. Those were the tears of happiness." Narayanan quit his job and began to dedicate his life to feeding the poor.  He founded a nonprofit, Akshaya Trust which currently feeds over 400 desperately poor people three meals a day.  The second hour of this week's show will be open phones. We hope you will call in and share your experiences with unselfish service!
