Navigating Amateur Motocross - Ep. 11

from The Coach Robb Podcast - The People's Podcast · host Robb

Welcome to Episode #11 of Navigating Amateur Motocross where Derek Harris, with HP Race Development, and myself dive deep into the eternal debate between power and suspension upgrades. We discuss why a rider's perception and experience often matter more than raw horsepower, and how proper throttle control and shifting techniques can maximize your bike's potential (and improve your overall speed). We also discuss why identical stock bikes can feel completely different to different riders and discover the importance of maintaining a reference point when making modifications.Understanding the relationship between power and suspension is crucial for success in motocross. Derek and I explore how increased horsepower affects shifting patterns, why proper jetting is essential for optimal performance, and how the gyroscopic effect of the crankshaft influences suspension behavior. After this discussion, you will understand why riding in the bike's sweet spot and mastering throttle control without relying on the clutch can lead to better lap times and improved control. Finally, we explored the evolving landscape of professional motocross, including team dynamics, rookie development, and the importance of long-term commitment to athlete development. Drawing from examples of successful programs like Pro-Circuit and international training approaches, we discussed why immediate success shouldn't be the primary focus for developing riders and how proper preparation, both mental and physical, remains fundamental to achieving lasting success in the riding and racing.Coach Robb's Resources (articles, videos, etc.) about health, wellness and performance: ► https://www.coachrobb.com/ ► Resources such as the 2-Week Food Challenge, Sweat Rate Calculator, and Body Measurement Spreadsheet, click here: https://coachrobb.activehosted.com/f/25 Coach Robb's Exclusive Exercise and Recovery Products (designed by Coach Robb):► Energy Fuel (Intensity and Duration Specific Sports Drink):            https://www.coachrobbstore.com/energy-fuel-products/Coach Robb's Suggested Vitamins & Minerals: ► Nutritional Frontiers Supplements (Developed and Recommended Supplements of Coach Robb)        https://www.coachrobbstore.com/nutritional-bundles/Coach Robb's Snacks, Smoothies and Meal Resources:Coach Robb's Healthy Meals, Smoothies and Snack Recipe Books available in print and digital formats on Coach Robb Store and Amazon.► Healthy Meals ► Smoothie Recipes ► Snack Recipes Coach Robb's Educational Bundles:► Nutrition for Weight Loss Educational Bundle     https://www.coachrobbstore.com/product/weight-loss-educational-bundle/► Nutrition for Performance Educational Bundle     https://www.coachrobbstore.com/product/fueling-performance-educational-bundle/
