Navigating the Bible: 1, 2 & 3 John

“Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment - to love one another - is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment , and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.” 1 John 2:7-8John’s epistles, 1, 2, and 3 John, are a beautiful extension from John’s Gospel. John continues his central themes of abiding and living out the call to love one another while spending considerable time on a new theme: confidence in salvation. John talks a lot about sin, about false teachers, about issues of the heart - but he does all of this under the cloak of what it means to be a child of God, to be in fellowship with Jesus, and to love one another.
