Neil Blum on AI, Pricing & Security in Legal | ILTACON 2026

from People in Legal · host People in Legal - Andrew, Chantal, David, Grace, Jonathan, Roni, Tim

If clients know AI can make the work faster, what will they still be willing to pay for? At ILTACON 2026, Tim Kenney caught up with Neil Blum, Head of IT at Barry Nilsson, to talk about how AI is changing client expectations, security and the economics of legal work. Neil shared how the conversation has shifted over the past 12 months from “Should we use AI?” to “How do we use it safely, and where does it actually create value?” 💡 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: → Clients are becoming more specific about work they no longer expect to pay traditional rates for, particularly repetitive or lower-value tasks. → Data sovereignty, privacy and security remain major considerations, especially when client data is involved. → Shadow AI is a real challenge, so firms need approved tools, visibility and clear conversations with users about what they actually need. → Vendors embedding AI into existing platforms can create new risk if firms don’t know where their data is going or which third parties are involved. The opportunity is clear, but so is the responsibility: AI adoption has to deliver value without compromising trust. Thank you Tim and Neil for the conversation. 🧡 #PeopleInLegal #ILTACON2026 #WeAreILTA #LegalTech #LegalAI
