New Wine Tastings - Bonhoeffer and the Racialized Church
from New Winecast: The New Wine Listening Experience · host New Wine, New Wineskins
Our society has paid a lot of attention to race in recent months in view of George Floyd’s murder, and also the tragic deaths of many African Americans at the hands of police. Not only has the society at large been forced to deal with the problem of whiteness, but also the church has had to wrestle with it. In this light, I am struck by the fact that you dedicate this book to a late friend, Stacy Jo Dunn, who had been a leader at the same church, who was a police officer in Portland, and who was African American. This dedication is so poignant and appropriate. In my estimation, it is also appropriate that you bring Bonhoeffer and his theology to bear on this subject. How does Bonhoeffer and his theology bear import for a discussion of race in the United States today, including gentrified and racialized Portland?
