Niall McKay - The Bass Player: A Song for Dad

A former print journalist, Niall McKay’s work has appeared in The Economist, The New York Times and Wired Magazine. Niall won an Emmy for his documentary Sikhs in America about the challenges of being Sikh in the US, which aired on PBS stations across America as part of Asian Pacific Heritage Month.  Niall also co-produced Irvine Welsh’s directorial debut, Nuts.Niall’s critically acclaimed feature documentary The Bass Player: A Song for Dad was aired on RTE and has screened in the film festival circuit. The Bass Player: A Song for Dad is a parallel journey into Niall’s admiration for his father, a jazz bass player, and his innermost doubts about love, and their conversations take on a confessional quality as they reveal their darkest moments.Niall is also the founder and director of the San Francisco Irish Film Festival and the co-founder of the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival.
