NJ Fire GuysRun #: 24-010Date: April 11, 2024Guest Superintendent Eriks GabliksEriks Gabliks is the Superintendent of the National Fire Academy (NFA), a position he has held since November 2020. His began his fire service career in 1980 when he joined the volunteer Adelphia Fire Co. in Howell, New Jersey. Over the years, he has served with 4 volunteer, combination, and career fire agencies.In 1991, Chief Gabliks joined the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). DPSST sets professional standards for public and private safety professionals in the state of Oregon. And operates the Oregon Public Safety Academy. In 2010 he became the first employee to rise from the internal ranks and be named Director, a position he served in until 2020. He had the honor to serve under 3 governors.Chief Gabliks holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration from Portland State University.   He has also completed the Executive Fire Officer Program at the NFA and the Executive Development Institute at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.Chief Gabliks is Past President of the North American Fire Training Directors and serves on various state and national organizations, including the Drexel University Fire Injury Research and Safety Trends Advisory Committee and many others.     He is an active member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the New Jersey Career Fire Chiefs Association, and is a Life Member of the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association. Yes, he is the brother of the famous Maris Gabliks who served as the State Fire Warden of the New Jersey Forest Fire Service for more than a decade and is now the Cooperative Fire Specialist with the United States Forest Service and serves Deputy Incident Commander of the Northeast Area Type I Incident Management Team (IMT).     They are proud first generation Latvians and speaks, reads, and writes the language.
