Non-Profit Heroes: American Greyhound

Since 2001, American Greyhound has been dedicated to finding homes for retired racing greyhounds, as well as other sighthounds in need.  Their volunteers welcome greyhounds and sighthounds when they have nowhere else to turn, provide the necessary veterinary care, teach them what it means to live in a home, and then find them good forever homes where they are able to live out their lives as wonderful pets. Whether you would like to volunteer, foster, or adopt, there are many ways to support their cause. Their organization is quick to lend a helping hand to work with other non-profit rescue groups to help ensure these dogs are given a second chance at life and some of the dogs end up giving back to the community as well through programs like Greyt Readers. The Greyt Readers program brings the dogs into libraries to allow kids from all different reading levels to participate in the program, including some that have difficulties with reading, or who are not comfortable reading in front of adults, but have no issues with reading to the dogs.
