Nuntiatoria CXVI considers what happens when institutions retain their offices, laws and outward forms after losing sight of what they are for. The Church exists for the worship of God and the salvation of souls; bishops are appointed to guard the Faith; priests to teach, sanctify and govern; monasteries to offer the solemn praise of God; civil law to protect justice, life and the natural family.
