Nutritional Needs of Senior Cats

Cats are living longer than ever. As they age, the prevalence of chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, periodontal disease, arthritis and cognitive dysfunction rise. Nutrition plays a role in minimizing clinical or slowing progression of these conditions, but senior cats with no diagnosed chronic illness also have altered nutritional requirements. Insidious weight loss and a decline in muscle mass contribute to morbidity, quality of life and mortality.
