Oakland Tabla
from Silvio Vinci Hosted by Silvio Vinci
OAKLAND TABLA (reworking of instrumental original track by Silvio Vinci) Saturday, the working week is done, we’re coming over, one by one. Move the table, let the music play, we’ve been waiting for this day. Grandma sings and everybody knows where that winding melody goes. Far from India, beneath another sky, we lift our hands and let it fly. Oh, Oakland Tabla, take us round and round. Bring a little of our homeland to this California town. Oh, Oakland Tabla, let the night unfold. We sing it to our children the way that we were told. Someone calls from half a world away: “Sing a little louder, let it play!” Hold the phone up, let them hear us all, hear the laughter through the wall. Sitar rising, silver in the air, cousins dancing, flowers in their hair. Old songs finding somewhere new to go, one more chorus, nice and slow. Oh, Oakland Tabla, take us round and round. Bring a little of our homeland to this California town. Oh, Oakland Tabla, let the night unfold. We sing it to our children the way that we were told.
