The first thing that God did to Adam and Eve after they were created was to bless them, and instruct them on what to do with the blessing – to be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over the rest of creation. (Genesis 1:26-28) Our being blessed is a primary priority and a fundamental aspect in God’s plans and dealings with us. In Christ, God has already blessed us and made the blessing available to us. The promise has been made and is there for the asking and taking. If you could have it without God, then you would have it by now. Secondly, God would not have had to make it a promise to us, if we could get it by ourselves without His participation or involvement. Self-effort and human achievement is not what the Bible means by the blessing. The blessing involves God’s hand and participation – it is supernatural in a sense. If your blessings can be explained without God, it is not “blessed.” Blessing(s) come exclusively from God.
