October 7 | Keep Pressing On!
from The Bible in a Year: Daily Reading & Devotion Hosted by Kevin Harrison
Today's reading from Isaiah 28–29 and Philippians 3 invites us to reflect on what it means to keep moving faithfully toward God rather than settling for appearances or giving up when the road grows hard. Both passages remind us that growth happens through steady, patient formation over time, not through quick bursts of effort. In Isaiah, God confronts leaders who trusted in their own schemes and a people who honored Him with their lips while their hearts stayed far away. In the middle of that warning, God lays a sure cornerstone in Zion and describes a farmer who plows, sows, and harvests in careful rhythm. It is a picture of the patient, ordered way God forms a people who belong to Him and learn to walk in trust. In Philippians, Paul sets aside every credential he once relied on and admits he has not yet arrived. Using the image of a runner straining toward the finish, he describes a life that lets go of what is behind and keeps pursuing Christ with steady attention. It is a quiet reminder of the calling that draws us forward. Together, these passages invite us to consider what might be holding us back, whether regret, past success, or simple weariness. They ask us to reflect on what it looks like to keep a steady pace with God, trusting that He is still calling us forward.
