A região Sudeste e Centro-Oeste do Brasil passa atualmente por uma grande crise hídrica — o quadro mais grave na região em 91 anos. A crise é causada pela falta de chuvas na região devido às mudanças climáticas. Segundo o professor do Instituto de Física da USP, Paulo Eduardo Artaxo Netto, o desmatamento da Amazônia é um dos principais motivos para a mudança climática. “O impacto das mudanças climáticas no clima é aumentar a frequência e a intensidade de eventos climáticos intensos, ou seja, grandes secas grandes inundações, e assim por diante”, explica o especialista. A crise hídrica deve prejudicar, inclusive, as hidrelétricas, que geram a maior quantidade de energia para o país. Segundo Artaxo Netto, uma solução para este problema seria o uso de energia solar. “O uso de energia eólica e solar é a grande salvação do país”, diz. “Menos de 7% da energia do país é gerada por pontos de energia solar e eólica, nós teríamos uma energia muito mais barata desta forma”, explica. Segundo ele, o Nordeste é o lugar ideal para pontos de energia solar.
