On the Couch with Melky Jean

from The Brain Love Podcast · host Dr. Delvena

June is Black Music Month now also known as African-American Music Appreciation Month. Aaaaand you know that May was Mental Health Awareness Month. Tonight I am talking the two bigs M's - music and mental. I'm on the couch with Melky Jean, the younger sister and the only sister of Wyclef Jean. Check out her website http://melkyjean.com and listen to her album on your favorite streaming platform - "Melky Sadek Album". WHO IS MELKY? She is a true creative and workaholic. Melky has been critically acclaimed by Marie Claire and Rolling Stones. Rolling Stones magazine named her one of the best underground acts, Vibe magazine and even Cosmopolitan magazine went as far as to compare her to a young Glades Knight. WHEW! If she isn't touring with her brother Wyclef Jean, she can be found performing with her band doing, "A Tribute To Soul Music". In the show, Melky incorporates her own original songs with some of her favorite soul legends like Betty Wright, Joe Cocker, Celia Cruz, and Tina Turner to name a few. After writing and producing various soundtracks for film, Melky landed her first syndicated television show throughout the United States as Host and Correspondent of Vibe magazines new television show reaching millions of viewers. That exposure would push her in the direction to write concepts for her own television shows that she would produce through her own production company G Carma Inc, further testing her creativity. Melky also began to write music video treatments that to her surprise would later have her behind the camera as a director. After directing a series of music video's she now writes movie scripts hoping to have her first featured film released soon. Tonight we are talking about her non-profit foundation, Carma, her faith and spirituality, knowing how to say no and set limits, how to reset, music as therapy, her album, Melky Sadek, and how she keeps things together by having a strong CIRCLE of 'real ones'.
