Online Protective Order Requests in Illinois

from Resource Sessions: Legal and Resource Podcasts by Sterk Family Law Group, P.C. · host Sterk Family Law Group, P.C.

On January 1, 2023, some changes in Illinois policy went into effect to help further protect victims of domestic violence who are seeking protective, or restraining, orders against their abusers.  Senate Bill 03667 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963, the Stalking No Contact Order Act, the Civil No Contact Order Act, and the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986 to allow victims who are seeking a protective order to now be able to file the request online.  While there are some caveats, including the ability to file online only in counties in Illinois that have over 250,000 residents, this new change was implemented to allow victims to file an order without having to face their abuser.  Attorneys Gwendolyn J. Sterk and Joneice S. Atchison of Sterk Family Law Group, P.C. sit down to discuss the changes that went into effect, how a victim can file a request, and other available remedies for victims to receive support.  To learn more or to connect with Sterk Family Law Group, P.C. or Gwendolyn Sterk, call 815-600-8950 or visit www.sterkfamilylaw.com  In addition to this podcast, we encourage you to refer to the Sterk Family Law Group resource book, Navigating the Winding Road: Family Law and Estate Planning in Illinois which is available via Amazon or our office.
