How to Use Ordinances Ready & Share Names with the Temple (FamilySearch)

In this Gathering Academy lesson, accredited genealogist Colette Hokanson walks you through Ordinances Ready and how to share names with the temple — this time on the FamilySearch website — so you can move names out of your queue and into the temple quickly.Colette shows you how Ordinances Ready pulls names (starting with your own reservations, then family groups, then names shared with the temple, then your ward, stake, and the wider Church), how to print cards or use a QR code, how to share reservations with the temple in batches, and how to pull a name back when you want to do it yourself. She also returns to her favorite next step: open your Completed names, look at each family, and find who's still missing — a spouse, a child, a green temple waiting to be requested.Underneath the how-to is a tender truth she keeps returning to: family history is where many of us finally learn to hear the Spirit. As Colette puts it — quoting Elder Richard G. Scott — spiritual power grows through experience: the Spirit gives both the inspiration to know what to do and the power to do it. Acting on a quiet thought, then seeing the result a few clicks later, is how that confidence is built.📌 Your invitation this week:1) Go to your Temple tab → Reservations, and share with the temple any names you can't complete in the next 3 months (you can always pull them back).2) Then go to Completed, pick someone, and look at their family for anyone still missing ordinances.💡 Why share names? Temples are being built around the world faster than ever, and some areas can't yet supply enough names of their own. Sharing puts names in what Colette calls the "fast pass lane" — the family history department's goal right now is to "nourish the temple with names." Don't worry about shared names waiting a while; as new temples open, the floodgates open with them.🔑 Handy tip: Before you reserve, check that a person has at least one source, and when possible confirm they lived past age 8. And if you're afraid of losing a name, click it and copy the ID (it saves to your clipboard) so you can always find them again.🎥 Listening on audio? All lessons live under the "Gathering Academy" playlist.Q: What order does Ordinances Ready pull names from?A: It searches in layers — first your own reservations, then names shared with your family groups, then names shared with the temple, then your ward, then your stake, then the rest of the Church. It always starts with what you've reserved.Q: How do I share a lot of reservations with the temple at once?A: In the Temple section, go to Reservations, check the names you want (up to 50 at a time), and choose Share with Temple. Note: ordinances that were previously shared with the temple can't be shared again — you'll uncheck those.Q: Can I get a name back after sharing it with the temple?A: Yes. Go to "Shared with Temple," select the person, and choose Unshare to return them to your reservations. (Unreserve is different — that sends them back to the family tree.)Q: Can I do a sealing before the parents' work is finished?A: Yes — current Church policy allows a child to be sealed to parents before the parents' own ordinances are completed.Q: How many names can I have reserved at once?A: Up to 300.
