Ordinary People, Extraordinary Mission

Throughout Scripture, God commissions ordinary people to accomplish His extraordinary will. He does not choose people because they are already powerful or perfect, but because they are willing to trust and obey Him. Noah was commissioned to build the ark and preserve life (Genesis 6:13–22). Moses was called from the burning bush to lead Israel out of Egyptian bondage (Exodus 3:10). Joshua received the charge to lead God's people into the Promised Land with courage and faith (Joshua 1:1–9). Isaiah answered God's call, saying, "Here am I! Send me" (Isaiah 6:8), while Jeremiah was appointed as a prophet before he was even born (Jeremiah 1:4–10). In the New Testament, Jesus commissioned His disciples to proclaim the gospel to every nation (Matthew 28:18–20). Though they were ordinary fishermen, tax collectors, and laborers, God empowered them through the Holy Spirit to accomplish a mission that changed the world (Acts 1:8). God's pattern has not changed. He still calls His people to serve according to the gifts He has given them (Ephesians 2:10). Every Christian has a purpose in God's kingdom. When God commissions someone, He also provides the strength, wisdom, and opportunities needed to fulfill that calling (Philippians 2:13). The question is not whether God is calling, but whether we are willing to answer.
