The Principle of Individuation This section begins with understanding that individual means to be undivided implying: i) undivided in itself ii) divided from everything else This implies that individual is opposite of universal, which is the abstract concept which follows in the discussion and results in three observations on the essence as such: i) the specific essence is really multiplied by the individuals ii) the specific essence is singularized by them iii) the specific essence subsists substantially in them This turns things into a discussion on essence, materiality and the metaphysical interrelation between them, unity, and multiplicity.
