Subsistent Subject and Person: Activity follows Being This section first discusses substance and accidents in the context of subsistence and deriving concepts and ideas as but accidents called qualities. This leads to the differentiation between the real concrete individual subsistent substance (suppositum) and that of the abstract substance (idea) which does not exist by itself and therefore cannot act. This leads to a further clarifying of the suppositum as:  i) to be the subject of accidents ii) to exist by itself The first cannot be without the second but the second can be without the first, and therefore this leads to further division of the act of being between: i) making the substance subsist (first act) ii) enabling the substance to act (second act) And this leads into a discussion on the nature of activity
